The Vice-Presidential Debate
Johnny’s Missing Pieces
The Vice-Presidential debate (I use that term loosely) failed to address most issues that are driving the disembowelment of our democracy. There were no questions asked or any response that referred to environmental issues. As the environment is doing great and global warming is just a myth, it must not be important.
There was a lot of talk about killing terrorist. No talk about the root causes of terrorism poverty, economic exploitation, religious suppression, military domination and imperialism.
There was no mention of the plight of the Palestinians just that terrorist acts (whatever their motivation) are reason enough for Israel to do whatever it wants to crush the Infatada and continue the occupation and repression of Palestine.
There was no discussion about ending the war in Iraq. Edwards talked about expanding troop deployments. Ah, sweet memories of Vietnam. Cheney said we were making progress. If this be progress, I would hate to see what failure looks like. The only difference I can see is that the Democrats seem hell-bent to be more militaristic that the Republicans in Iraq.
Cheney did not respond when asked about Paul Bremer’s statement that there were inadequate troops to win the peace.
Cheney swore that he had never said Iraq was responsible for 911. In fact, he has said Iraq had ties to Al Qaida or that Saddam was funding the terrorists on at least twenty occasions.
There was no mention that the U.S. yesterday vetoed U.N. sanctions against Israel for their actions in Gaza.
And on and on and on…
Kerry and Edwards seem to be trying to out Republican the Republicans. Again. The progressive movement has been left outside once more, begging for the only scrap the Democrats and their masters seem willing to give them. Bush. It doesn’t seem enough somehow. My hope is that the millions that have been mobilized to end the Bush nightmare will not go back to sleep while the world crumbles around us again.
That said, I will be working diligently to get out the vote and to help awaken the Neo-Con from their dreams of 1984.
