Bush Administration Garners 31st Annual Doublespeak Award from NCTE
Bush also won for his creative use of language in public statements regarding the reasons why the United States needed to pursue war against Iraq-for unsubstantiated statements, for the lack of evidentiary support, and for the purported manipulation of intelligence data.

Tell Congress to Investigate the 2004 Election
Questions are swirling around whether the election was conducted honestly or not. We need to know -- was it or wasn't it? If people were wrongly prevented from voting, or if legitimate votes were mis-counted or not counted at all, we need to know so the wrongdoers can be held accountable, and to help prevent this from happening again. Members of Congress are demanding an investigation to answer this question.

Machiavelli's "The Prince" on lying:

XVIII:27-30) a wise leader cannot and should not keep his word when keeping it is not to his advantage or when the reasons that made him give it are no longer valid.

XVIII:54-57)It is good to appear clement, trustworthy, humane, religious, and honest, and also to be so, but always with the mind so disposed that, when the occasion arises not to be so, you can become the opposite.

An Aside:

I met a man this week who personally witnessed the loading of opium onto an airplane at a US airbase in Afghanistan. The rumors that the CIA helped run the cocaine trade out of Columbia several years ago has become a recurring nightmare. A prediction: We are now seeing an increase in opiates on our street corners. In the coming months heroin and other opiates will outpace the crack epidemic of the 90's.

I urge everyone to see Fahrenheit 9/11 this weekend. An unprecedented movie that will have a powerful impact on the 2004 Presidential election. I howled. I wept. And I wasn't alone.

While there was no news that us avid political junkies weren't aware of, the movie helped crystalize the choices we face. And for those still on the fence - let's just say that many will not be after viewing it. And the scene of Wolfowitz licking his comb - well, I had to avert my eyes.
